Ken Naef's background:
I spent 9 years
as a welder and fabricator while my passion for drag racing
grew. In 1994 I took the plunge, quit my day job, and went to
work for a small repair shop as a mechanic in Green Bay, WI,
where I stayed for 2 years.
From 1996-2005 I
worked at 2 local powersports dealerships holding the positions
of technician, service manager, and store manager. I attended
numerous factory-trained "update & specialty" classes, including
digital fuel injection, suspension, and 2 and 4-stroke engine
race prep.
I've been into
anything with power and/or wheels for as long as I can remember,
starting out with mini bikes, snowmobiles and pedal bike racing.
I moved-on to drag racing at age 17 with a 1967 Mustang, then at
age 18 on a modified 1979 Suzuki GS1000 at Wisconsin
International Raceway (WIR) in Kaukauna, Wisconsin.
In 1993 I drag
raced a no-bar Supercomp Suzuki with the International Drag Bike
Association (IDBA)
and finished my first season with a #3 plate. In 1994, I added
nitrous oxide and stepped up to the Top Gas class and finished
#2. After a 2-year break from national event racing, I returned
and won the Championship in Top Gas, as well as winning the
Sportsman Rider of the Year Honors. My personal best quarter
mile ET and MPH are 7.64 seconds at 179 mph.
Since then, my
interests have expanded. I have built and owned 8-second, 250+
hp street bikes, and tried my hand at motocross racing. I have
restored, and still own, a 1966 Kawasaki J1T (85ccs and 7 hp)
and a 1968 Kawasaki 350 cc A7. I have also become a Dad, and
can now assemble trikes and repair broken toys like a pro.
Anytime I can steal away from the shop I attend track days at
Road America or Blackhawk Farms.
